Napanee’s Junior Hawks dominated their quarter-final showdown with the Belleville East Defenders, blanking them 32-0 on June 11.

The victory advances Napanee to the semifinals of the Belleville Minor Football League, which is comprised of athletes from Grade 6-8.

Napanee got rolling early with a short kickoff recovery by Grade 7 captain Kai Meeks. The offense rolled to five touchdowns, three to Eython Consack at running back, one to Cody Storey on a long score, and one to Bryson Thompson, Napanee’s third year multiple position player on defence and quarterback.

Twice Napanee stopped the Defenders inside their 20 on five plays. Napanee’s d-line also recovered two fumbles, by Grade 6 Cody Fieldhouse, and Grade 7 Walker Presley, who was named player of the game.

Napanee is scheduled to face Bancroft on Friday in the semifinals, with a trip to either the ‘A’ or ‘B’ finals on the line. The finals will take place June 22 at Belleville’s Mary Ann Sills Turf Field.

Napanee entered the playoffs with a 2-2 record. They closed out the regular season on June 7 with a 36-32 loss in Campbellford. After being down by 16, Napanee was moving the ball when the clock ran out.
