Greater Napanee firefighter Mackenzie Grosvenor was awarded an Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery for his quick actions on the night of Oct. 28, 2023.

Grosvenor was among the emergency service workers honoured on June 17 as the Ontario government announced this year’s recipients of the provincial honour.

‘Just after midnight on Oct. 28, 2023, a car crash occurred on a residential street in Amherstview, causing one vehicle to catch fire,’ reads the description of Grosvenor’s actions on the government of Ontario’s website. ‘By chance, the collision happened right in front of a house where firefighter Mackenzie Grosvenor was visiting while off-duty. Upon hearing the crash, he rushed outside and rescued the injured driver from the burning car. The driver had severe injuries but was still alive as they waited for medical assistance to arrive. Firefighter Grosvenor’s quick and selfless actions undoubtedly saved a life that night.’

Recipients are nominated by their fire chief, who submit a description on why they feel a member of their team is worthy.

First awarded in 1976, the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery honours those who have gone above and beyond to protect and serve their communities.
