Napanee Heritage 5K and 1-Miler sells out with 450 participants taking part

Rookie runners and seasoned marathon runners alike turned out for the seventh annual Napanee Heritage 5K and Kids 1-Miler on June 15.

All 450 spots in the race were sold out as participants of all ages and abilities lined up for the popular fundraiser which departed and finished at the L&A County Museum.

Mitchell Kirby, age 26, claimed the top spot in the 5K, posting a time of 15:09, just six seconds ahead of Napanee’s Jack Gregory, age 15. Brett Crowley, a 29-year-old from Kitchener, finished third at 15:55.

Brynn Bowman, age 16 of Gananoque, was the latest female at 18:54. Catherine Irwin, age 21 and Sarah Wismer, age 27, both of Kingston, finished second and third respectively at 19:41 and 19:43.

The race was also open to those who opted to walk the 5K route with Hanna Gregory of Napanee, age 22, finishing first in a time of 36:37. Donna Cowle, age 60 of Napanee, was second at 37:03 with Marc Saulnier, age 53 of Kingston, placing third at 40:16.

In the Kids 1-miler, 12-year-old Dylan Chalk of Napanee repeated as the winner in a time of 5:36. Carter Gallant was second at 5:44 and Ethan Logan was third at 5:46. Maya Guthier, age 12 of Kingston was the fastest female at 6:31 followed by Gwyneth Stacey, age nine of Camden East at 6:54 and Isla Kamink, age 11 of Consecon in this at 6:57.

In the spirit of the race being for everyone, PJ Marshall, age 82 of Kingston, completed the 5K in a time of 35:17. Meanwhile in the Kkids 1-miler, there were a trio of three year olds, Arden McMahon, Daniel Lee and Riley Fisher, who completed the race.

Run through the streets of Napanee, participants follow a route that showcases some of the many historical and heritage buildings of the town.

Funds from the entry fee to this year’s race will go towards building an outdoor disc golf course at the Napanee Fairgrounds, with the goal of having it built and operational this summer.
