TMT’s Kaiya Maracle eligible for upcoming PWHL draft

Kaiya Maracle of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory has been declared eligible for the second annual Professional Women’s Hockey League Draft.

The 22-year-old, who was born in Toronto, played three seasons with the University of PEI, registering five assists in 27 games played last season. Maracle is one of 167 players declared eligible for the upcoming draft, which will take place June 10 in Minnesota. PWHL teams will select 42 players through seven rounds.

Any players that aren’t drafted become free agents and can sign with any team.

On Wednesday Minnesota defeated Boston to capture the PWHL’s first ever championship, known as the Walter Cup.
